Short-Term Independent Study Contracts
Short-term Independent Study Requests
Morgan Hill Unified School District places a high value on attendance. Good attendance directly correlates with your student's access to exceptional educational opportunities. While regular school attendance is important, we understand that unforeseen emergencies occasionally arise. In such cases, we are committed to providing support to ensure your student's academic progress continues.
If your child must be absent from in-person classes for a period ranging from 5 to 15 days, whether due to an emergency or planned absence, we strongly encourage you to consider the option of short-term independent study. This option ensures that your student can continue learning even when not physically present at school.
We kindly request a minimum of two weeks' notice when requesting short-term independent study. This advance notice allows our dedicated teachers ample time to prepare appropriate coursework.Requests made outside of the two-week time frame are not guaranteed approval.
The school reserves the right to evaluate and potentially deny requests based on factors such as truancy, academic performance, or failure to fulfill prior independent study contracts. Each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure fairness and consistency.
Please be aware that short-term independent study contracts will not be approved during the week before the December break.
All contracts must be completed on the day the student returns to school. Failure to adhere to this timeline can result in voiding the contract, potentially leading to unexcused absences. We urge you to collaborate closely with us to facilitate a smooth and efficient process throughout.
For any inquiries or clarifications regarding short-term independent study arrangements, please feel free to reach out to Attendance Clerk Jocelyn Hamilton at hamiltonj@mhusd.org.
